The Vintage Mobile Cinema…

As part of the film festival expansion plans for 2017, Audrey, the vintage mobile cinema is being brought into Totnes for the weekend.

It will be showing a mixture of short and long documentaries, pathe films and it will be the focal point of some unique viewing experiences to include; a late night secret cinema club, a vintage cinema experience with afternoon tea prepared by the Totnes WI and it will be at KEVICCs and be part of their celebration weekend.

Celebrating it’s 50 birthday in 2017, the Vintage Mobile Cinema is a unique slice of cinema and automotive history. It gives audiences an exciting film viewing experience unavailable anywhere else.

The 22 seat movie theatre is sound treated, fully upholstered and climate controlled in the rear of the vehicle, with carefully tiered seating to ensure everyone gets maximum viewing pleasure. All films are shown on the high definition (HD) digital projection unit, complete with Dolby 7:1 surround sound for the full cinema experience. All efforts have been made to stay faithful to the original format in the restoration of the vehicle, with compromise only being made to benefit the audience and their safety.

The cinema comes with staff to run all the technical aspects and who can facilitate audience management.

‘Audrey’ was one of seven units custom built for the British government in the late 1960s, used at the time to promote British industry.

Sadly, the other cinemas have disappeared forever, leaving us all with the one and only Audrey, the only example of a quite stunning piece of British transport heritage.
